This site uses no cookies, collects no personal data and requires no consent. Below is the detail of what is measured and by whom.
Visit statistics
To know how many people read the site we use Simple Analytics, a service that sets no cookies, does not fingerprint the browser and collects no data that could identify a person.
Only aggregate data is recorded: page visited, country, referring site, device type. None of it can be traced back to who is reading, which is why no consent banner is required.
Simple Analytics is a company based in the Netherlands and stores data within the European Union. Its visit statistics are neither sold nor cross-referenced with other services.
Third-party services
Images of historical events are served from the Wikimedia delivery network. When your browser loads them, Wikimedia receives the IP address of the request, as happens with any image hosted elsewhere; their privacy policy applies.
Typefaces are hosted on our own servers: no request is sent to external services for text.
The app
The iPhone and Android app is a separate product from this site and has its own policy, available on its App Store and Google Play listings. The app works fully without signing up; an account is only needed to sync your saved collection across devices.
